Good day all,
The 2025 Northeast GT season was great, but our 2026 preparation wasn’t just rinse and repeat. We are bringing you more new than even we thought we were! We’ll do our best to keep this short and to the point.
Sprint Racing and Time Attack: We already let the cat out of the bag about all the new tracks and there has been a bit of foreshadowing, but now is the time to make this official… Northeast GT is bringing two new forms of competition to you for 2026 — Sprint Racing and Time Attack (aka Time Trials)! Our fair and flexible classing system that gave us such great competition last year will be carried over and applied to these new additions.
Four New Tracks: As many of you have seen, our series will be venturing further out into New England and the Northeast in a big way. Thompson was good to us and allowed a great event format, but more tracks was the most requested change for 2026 and we have delivered! Our 2026 season will include visits to Lime Rock, Palmer, New Hampshire, Watkins Glen and of course Thompson.
Daily Event Schedule and Format: Exact event schedules will vary per event, but most will have time attack run groups, race practice and qualifying in the morning and early afternoon, with the sprint and endurance race sessions in the afternoon. Thompson will keep close to its traditional schedule to allow all racers the opportunity to drive under the lights. Sprint races will be twenty to thirty minutes in length, while the endurance races are all scheduled to be three hours. Race schools will be done the first day of most events.
A New Website: We wanted a more modern, effective and flexible layout to relay information. Making the change now prepares us better for the future and gives us a fresh face to the world to go with all our growth. We’ll be adding a lot of content and useful items as the season progresses. More on that soon. Check out the new site today! www.Northeast-GT.com
Rules and Classing: While a healthy series with good competition and affordable racing largely comes from good rules stability, some evolution and refinement is always needed. Our NEGT 2.0 rebuild for last year was fantastic and led to a lot of great competition. This season we are building on that success by adding faster classes, making the classification process even more fair and flexible, plus we’ve sorted out a neat way to classify turbocharged cars. Given the success of our classification process and high interest in our power-to-weight classing, we are eliminating the “catch-all” GT Bracket category. We apologize to anyone who was planning to join us there, but we promise to help get you classed in one of our power-to-weight classes. We’ve added faster classes this year and would be willing to add a slower one if there is enough interest. The 2026 rulebook and classing calculator are both live on our website now. Check out the changes and see how your car stacks up for 2026.
A ton of time and effort has gone into making these improvements, but please let us know of any feedback you may have, good or bad, big or small. Now is the time for any tweaks before the 2026 season officially starts. Thank you all for your patience and continued support. We hope this was worth the wait.
Sincerely,
~Northeast GT Staff
